Monument record MDR4030 - Alleged stone circle, Longshaw Country Park, Grindleford

Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

At SK 26317952, Longshaw, is a circular or sub-circular feature, with a maximum diameter of 36m. Stones and a slight ditch mark the perimeter; a pitted area on the east-north-east side exposes a stony composition. This may possibly represent the remains of stone circle. (1) An archaeological survey of the area carried out in 1994 did not find anything in the area that resembled any kind of stone circle or ringcairn and it is likely that the feature is a fortuitous scatter of naturally-placed stones and gullies.
