Full Description

"Baslow, N.E. of the Colliery" is included in a "list of ancient boles or lead hearths" "Bowles Hill Piece" (a) (cf. Bolehull, c. 1386) (1-2) No evidence of Medieval lead working was noted in the vicinity of Baslow. (3) Place name evidence suggests a smelting area-'Bowles Hill Piece' as noted on the tithe apportionment in 1849, while reference is made to 'Bolehill' about 1386
