(SK 36083547) War Memorial (NAT) (1) Midland Railway War Memorial, Midland Road. The memorial was constructed of Portland stone by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1921. It consists of a pedestal with curved ends supporting a catafalque on which lies the body of a soldier, with a coat of arms in wreaths at either side. It is enclosed by a low wall with the names of the dead inscribed on plaques either side. Grade 2*. (2-3)
