Full Description

Eatonpark Wood quarries. Depressions found on the floor of the wood (at SK 362428 ) from which gritstone was extracted for scythe whetstones. Wasters from this quarrying process can still be found. (1) Nothing is shown in Eatonpark Wood on the 1st ed. 25" OS map of c. 1880; however there is an 'Old Quarry' marked a short distance to the east, which may have been part of the same workings. (2)
