Monument record MDR4893 - Migrated medieval village, South Wingfield

Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

The position of South Wingfield church (SMR 26205) and medieval references to houses, halls, barns, gardens and curtilages in the vicinity of the church indicate the original site of the village. The movement of the manorial seat by Cromwell from Ufton Hall (SMR 26209) to the Manor House (SMR 26201) probably caused the shift. (1)
