Full Description

Grade II listed milepost of early 19th century date. Cast iron. It has a triangular sectioned base with a moulded front angle, and a flat back, with a segmental arched head, curving forward to form a horizontal panel below. The north side is inscribed 'DERBY/18 MILES'. The south side is inscribed 'CHESTERFIELD/ 5 MILES, DRONFIELD/11 MILES, SHEFFIELD/17 MILES'. A raised panel on the front is inscribed 'J HAYWOOD JNR/PHOENIX FOUNDRY/DERBY'. The back, above, is inscribed 'TOWNSHIP OF STRETTON' (1) Cast iron milepost on the A61, the old Chesterfield to Derby turnpike road. (2)
