Full Description

SK 0865 8074: Peaslows Cross (site of). (1) Peaslows Cross at the top of Sparrow Pit is shown on the allotment plan of 1712. It is also mentioned in the Parish Register of 1653, and stood in a field on the left of the old road from Blackbrook in the angle made by that road and the lane from Stonyford. About 1900 a large block of gritstone with a deep hole in the middle, probably the base of the cross, was found in the foundations of a house some 200 yards from the site of the cross. It appears to have been left in the foundation when the house was rebuilt. (2) This cross has gone [1965]. The socket stone was not located. (3)
