Full Description

Quantities of Mesolithic flint and chert, including cores, blades, flakes, scrapers and a microlith, were recovered from Field 15, and allocated NDAT Site 5. The material was collected by the Old Dronfield Society and the North Derbyshire Archaeological Trust. (1, 2) Fieldwalking by the Old Dronfield Society for the North Derbyshire Archaeological Trust was carried out in several fields along a ridge at Unstone which commands a wide view over a broad valley. Six sites were located on the ridge, with site 5 being characterised by an artefact scatter but with no marked concentration likely to indicate a centre of settlement. The field produced Wolds flint and translucent brown flint, thought to indicate a mixture of Early and Late Mesolithic activity. (3)
