Full Description

[Area centred SK 43504242] Polished axe found in turves cut from new housing-estate. (1) [Area centred SK 43804555] The axe, in my possession was found in 1953 in a load of turf brought to my house from the new estate at Marlpool. The exact provenance could not be traced. [Area indicated on OS 6" by Authy.] (2a) The axe is a small, polished whitish grey stone (? patinated flint) specimen, c. 4" long, with a cutting edge 2" wide and butt, c 1" wide. The edges are facetted. Apart from some slight flaking at the butt and cutting-edge it is in good condition. (2)
