Full Description

Dismantled Railway nr. Shipley Park. Inclined railway, now dismantled, from a colliery adjacent to Shipley Park, to the Midland Railway's Erewash Valley Line. The OS 6" identifies the colliery as Woodside Colliery (SMR25308). (1) The 1st ed. 25" OS map marks the route as 'Old Tramway', with evidence from boundary lines and earthwork symbols to suggest that it originally joined a railway line immediately south of Shipley Colliery, as well as running to Shipley Colliery Woodside Pit, although it appears that the line had been dismantled. (2) By the time of the 2nd edition, it is shown as 'Mineral Railway', with a new route at its south-eastern end curving into Woodside Colliery. (3)
