Full Description

The Thatched Cottage, Main Road, Heath and Holmewood, of 17th century or earlier date. 'SK 4473 6689 Heath, Thatched Cottage, Cruck Building. Cruck building, two sets remain, in excellent condition. Originally there were five sets. Re-roofed in 1979. One frame exposed in east gable.' (1-3) 'A single-storey thatched cottage with attic dating to the late 16th century, with single storey additions. It has been identified as making an important contribution to the Heath Village Conservation Area. See source for more details.' (4) From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 46 NW PARISH OF HEATH MAIN ROAD 2/6 (West Side) 13.7.79 The Thatched Cottage GV II Cottage. C17 or earlier. Small cottage of cruck construction. One of two cruck trusses is exposed in the east wall. Coursed rubble sandstone and brick. Thatched roof, and lower slate roof. Brick gable end stacks. Single storey plus attics. South elevation: Coped wall to left with a C20 window with stone lintel with ogee arch cut in. To the right, a C20 casement window with leaded lights, doorway with plank door and a C20 casement window. Lower wing to the east with a dormer window, Interior with stone flagged floor, large stone fireplace (now partly blocked) to west wall with blocked doorway beside it. Winder staircase against east wall. First floor has west fireplace with interesting squinch detail supporting purlin. Listing NGR: SK4473166981.' (5)
