Site record MDR6 - Mesolithic flint scatter, Arnfield Clough, Tintwistle

Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

Pilot field survey of an area threatened by construction of a reservoir. Mesolithic flints were collected from eroded mineral soils at the edges of the peat. No excavation was carried out. Types included microliths, scrapers, cores and a micro burin. Although few in number, the overall composition of tools and types of raw material (chert and flint) suggest that they represent later Mesolithic (narrow blade) activity. (1)
