Full Description

SK 40557008. Road, Calow Lane. A road surface was observed by L B Cooper within an area that had been stripped of topsoil prior to excavations for outcrop coal. The road was approx. 1ft down and comprised local sandstone, of fist size or larger. It was c. 10ft wide and 4 or 5 yards long, and disappeared under a hawthorn hedge at an angle, pointing somewhere towards Calow church. A larger area was stripped than was worked, so it is not known whether the road was destroyed or covered over again. A sketch plan, from memory, was made by Mr Cooper in 1977. (1)
