Full Description

Milestone, B6001, Grindleford, a mid-18th century structure. 'Milestone located on the B6001, east side of the road, approximately 0.5km to the north of Falcliff Wood. The height of the stone is 0.6m, the writing upon the stone is worn but legible. It reads 'TO HATHERSAGE 1 MILE' and 'TO BAKEWELL 5 MILES'.' (1-3) The road is the former Grindleford Bridge-Strines turnpike. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 28 SW PARISH OF EYAM WOODLANDS HAZELFORD 2/9 Milepost 300 yds to the west of Harper Lees II Milepost. Mid C18. Plain stone slab with rounded top, with inscription 'To Bakewell 8. Hathersage 1'. Listing NGR: SK2357980171.' (4)
