Full Description

Church Gresley Colliery is named on the 1836 OS map. (1) Colliery with railway/tramway (not named) connecting it to the Woodville branch railway at SK 2980 1778. Old shafts depicted at SK 2916 1795 and SK 2952 1815, and shafts at SK 2890 1812 are possibly connected with this site. (2) The colliery is still named on early 20th century OS maps, as is a mineral railway; the old shafts are no longer depicted. (3-5) The colliery is not depicted on the OS map of 1976, by which time the site was occupied by buildings (not named) and open ground. (6) The site is now [1995] an industrial estate. (7)
