Full Description

In 1888 this area is shown on the OS map as mainly open ground behind a developed street frontage. (1) By 1902 the Church Works had been constructed, manufacturing sanitary earthenware. The works was still in use in 1938. (2-3) By 1976 the works had been demolished and the site had become a residential area. (4, 5) The Church Works was one of three new works established in the later 19th century by the firm of Benjamin Robinson to manufacture high quality sanitary ware exclusively. (6)
