Monument record MDR7111 - Ridge and Furrow, Rosliston Road, Walton

Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

Probable earthwork ridge and furrow of medieval date seen as a fragmentary random, curvilinear ridge and furrow system, with 'blocks' of on average 160m by 90m. Mapped using good quality aerial photographs. (1) A visual assessment of the ridge and furrow at Rosliston Road found that in some places the earthworks were relatively distinct while in other areas they were far more ephemeral. A topographic survey carried out on a part of the earthworks in 2009 found that the ridge and furrow appeared to be quite narrow and therefore possibly had a post-medieval rather than a medieval origin.
