Full Description

(SK 3895 2805) Quarry (not named) shown as earthwork between the junction of the Derby and Melbourne Branch Railway and the Derby to Weston on Trent line on the OS map of 1887. A short track of rail is depicted running into the quarry from the main line. (1) By 1901 the quarry has expanded and is named on the OS map, with railway track leading to two separate quarry faces. (2) Further expansion of the track has occurred by 1924, and a crane is depicted on the map. (3) The quarry is not depicted on a map of 1982 and the area is shown as rough ground. (4)
