Full Description

Stocking Farm Caravan Site, Calver. Partially extant 19th century farmstead. The farmstead is formed of a regular courtyard of L-plan with additional detached elements to the main plan and three sides of the yard formed of agricultural buildings. The farmhouse is detached with side on to the yard. The site is in an isolated location. with one or more of the structural elements dating to the 19th century There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings. (1) (2) (3) (4) Early 19th century schoolroom now used as farm buildings. Built from gritstone with a cement tile roof, it is of two storeys with a gabled bellcote to the south. It was built after 1817 by Horatio Mason of Calver Mill as a Sunday School and with the passing of the 1833 Factory Act it became the Mill School. (5). Former Schoolroom at Stocking Farm. Grade II listed schoolroom, now farm outbuildings, dating from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with ashlar dressings and quoins. The Schoolroom was built after 1817 by Horatio Mason of Calver Mill as a Sunday School and with the passing of the 1833 Factory Act it became the Mill School. (6). Photographic record. (7).
