Full Description

The Farm, Thornhill Lane End, Thornhill, a late 18th century building. 'Located at the junction of the A625 and Thornhill Lane End. Now a house, considerably altered, which includes the adjoining, listed as a public house in the 1851 census. Also adjacent is a workshop, formerly a changing house for horses along the toll road.' (1) The Farm (Thornhill Lane-end Farm), Thornhill. Extant 18th century farmstead. The farmstead is of a linear plan with one side of the yard formed of agricultural buildings and additional detached elements to the main plan. The farmhouse is attached to the agricultural range. The site is in an isolated location. All the traditional buildings remain extant. (2-5) From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 18 SE PARISH OF THORNHILL HOPE ROAD 7/89 (North Side) 'The Farm' II Farmhouse. Late C18. Coursed gritstone with gritstone dressings. Stone slate roof with stone gable end stacks. Two storeys. South elevation. Central door- way with stone surround and C20 door. Flanked on each side by 2-light square section flush mullion windows. First floor with central round arched window flanked on each side by 2-light square section flush mullion windows. Listing NGR: SK1982682817.' (6)
