Full Description

Dr. T. C. Welsh observed building foundations on the north end of a shelf below the path in Monks Dale at SK13557377. The site was below a scree slope / cliff on the north and west side, and below a scree slope to the east. He identified a series of linear and sub-circular outlines on the platform with a level width of 12 to 15 metres. The building also appeared to be partly on and into the slope, with the easternmost room elevated. He suggests that this may have been a store or sleeping area. The westernmost room was seen to contain a raised internal surface bounded by a groove or channel, and he suggests a byre end variant. Dr Welsh suggests the building may have been an old farmstead.
