Monument record MDR7722 - Ridge and furrow, southwest of Sandy Brook Lodge, Buxton Road, Offcote and Underwood
Type and Period (1)
- RIDGE AND FURROW (Medieval - 1066 AD to 1539 AD)
Protected Status/Designation
- None recorded
Full Description
Ridge and furrow, c. 6m inter-ridge distance, running WNW to ESE in fields west and south-west of 'The Gables'. Mainly well preserved, the fields were possibly strip fields, but may have been subsequently truncated through the parcelling of land as gardens for properties alongside the Buxton Road, such as 'The Gables'. However, the Offcote/Ashbourne parish boundary forms the eastern edge of these fields - and this might suggest some considerable age to these plots themselves. (1)
