Full Description

(SK 3183 1833) The mine is not depicted on the 1st edition 25" OS map of c. 1880 - area is shown as an enclosed field. (1) 'Clay and Coal Mine' is named on the 2nd edition 25" OS map of c. 1900. (2) It is named as 'Old Clay and Coal Mine' on the 3rd edition 25" OS map of the early 20th century. (3) The mine is not depicted on the 1977 OS map - area is shown as open ground. (4) The area was identified as being waste ground comprising hollows and spoil heaps in 1994. (5)
