Full Description

SK 481372 Starch Factory. A large brick three-storey building erected 1837 by Lawrence Hall, for £5,000, with a 12 hp steam engine. (1) Map evidence shows the site was still a Starch Works in 1885. (2) By 1901 it was occupied by the Excelsior Iron Foundry and a spring mattress factory. (3) Only the former is named on the OS map of 1914. (4)
