Full Description

RCHME FIELD DESCRIPTION (1) SK 24194 62982; SK 24223 62948; SK 24229 62913: BELL PITS. Situated on a W facing slope are three possible bell pits with diameters averaging 3-4m and not more than 1m deep. All have upcast around them. One (at SK 24194 62982) post-dates a shallow hollow way. There is no mapped seam of coal here and no exposures were seen. It is possible that these may be stone pits, although there morphology compares with known bell pits in this part of Derbyshire.
