RCHME FIELD DESCRIPTION (2)
SK 25064 62895: INSCRIBED STONE
The 'Duchess of Sutherland Stone' is an outcrop of rock overlloking the E facing escarpment of Stanton Moor. On the outcrop is a rectangular niche cut into the E face of the outcrop, and contains a coronet sculptured in relief and a raised tablet bearing the inscription 'HS 1830'. These are probably quarrymens' graffiti of a very high standard.
