Full Description

Milestone, southwest of Winstermoor Farm, Winster, a late 18th century structure. Grade II listed milestone, wedge-shaped with a rounded top. It is inscribed 'To / BAKEWELL / 7 / MILES' and 'To / ASHBOURN / 10 / MILES'. The milestone is on the 1811 Ashbourne-Haddon turnpike road. (1-2) On the Bakewell-Ashbourne turnpike. (3) From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 25 NW PARISH OF WINSTER 2/69 Milepost 400 yards south-west of Winstermoor Farm II Milepost. Late C18, Wedge-shaped stone milestone with rounded top. North face reads 'To Bakewell, 7 miles', south face reads 'To Ashbourne, 10 miles'. Listing NGR: SK2387159333.' (4)
