Full Description

Post medieval cast iron milepost which reads 'Buxton 3 miles' and 'Macclesfield 8¾ miles'. The post is on the 1821 Macclesfield-Buxton turnpike. (1). This cast iron milepost, of circular drum design, lies on the Buxton to Macclesfield 1821 turnpike diversion. It reads 'MACCLD / 8¾ / MILES ' and 'BUXTON / 3 / MILES'. (2) The maker's name 'J. HARRISON. DERBY' is written down the side of the circular post on top of which the circular drum sits. (3)
