Full Description

Post medieval cast-iron milepost which reads 'Buxton 2 miles' and 'Macclesfield 9 ¾ miles'. In 1978 it was very rusty and in need of repair. The post is on the Macclesfield-Buxton 1821 turnpike. (1). Cast iron milepost comprising a circular drum on a circular post. The maker's name is on the latter, but is now [2001] buried. One side of the drum reads 'BUXTON / 2 / MILES', the other 'MACCLd / 9¾ / MILES'. (2)
