Full Description

Milestone with a very weathered inscription; it reads 'To Ashbourn', the other side is indistinct. It is located on the 1759 Newhaven-Grindleford turnpike. In December 1950, according to Fred Munslow, the stone was inscribed 'Ashburn' and 'Bakewell'. (1). A milestone is recorded at this location on the 1st edition Ordnace Survey map and therefore predates 1880. (2).
