Full Description
Milepost, near Smithy Lane, Taddington, an early 19th century structure.
'Cast-iron milepost, painted white with 'LONDON' and banding painted black, c1.5m high. Sited on the south side of Main Road, Taddington, between two rows of cottages. 'LONDON' is cast into the body of the milepost.' (1)
'The milepost has been repainted and lettering added. It now reads 'LONDON 157' around the top, with 'BUXTON / 6' on one side of the body and 'BAKEWELL / 5½' on the other.' (2)

Mile post. Early C19. Cast iron. Circular shaft and broader circular body with raised bead moulding and domed top. Inscribed around the top LONDON. The rest of the information was painted and is no longer visible.
