Full Description

Triangular milestone, not obviously engraved, leaning away from the road. It has been painted previously, but is now totally illegible. The 1922 Ordnance Survey map reads 'Buxton 5, Ashbourne 15'. The occupant of Street House Farm remembers that the stone used to read either 'To' or 'From London'. (1). The 1st ed. 25" Ordnance Survey map of c. 1880 shows the milestone as 'Buxton 5, Ashbourne 15, London 153'. (2)
