Milepost, A515, Hartington Middle Quarter, an early 19th century structure. Cast-iron milepost on the wide grass verge on the south side of the road. (1-2) From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 16 NW PARISH OF HARTINGTON MIDDLE QUARTER BUXTON ROAD 5/70 (West Side) Mile Post 34 metres north-west of Middle Street Farm at NGR SK 136 653 II Mile post. Early C19. Cast iron. Triangular section base, with moulded front angle.. curving upwards to form flat back with segmental head. North side inscribed: 'ASHBOURNE/13 MILES' and 'J HAYWOOD JNR/PHOENIX WORKS/DERBY'. South side inscribed: 'BUXTON/7 MILES' and 'J HAYWOOD JNR/PHOENIX WORKS/DERBY'. Front inscribed: 'LONDON' in large letters in arc. Below: '152 MILES/DERBY/26 MILES'. Below again, on horizontal section, raised area inscribed 'HARTINGTON PARISH'. Listing NGR: SK1358565269.' (3)
