Full Description

Barn, Twin Dales, Over Haddon, Derbyshire Dales, 1851-1857. Substantially built two-storey Cow barn. Originally the barn housed two rows of cows that would have stood facing each other along the building with a feeding passage between them. A loft was originally located above the livestock in the end bays with the central feeding passage also used as a hay mew; an area open to the roof where hay was kept. A single storey stone extension, probably a loose box, was constructed abutting the south gable of the barn between 1877 and 1898. Constructed of crudely coursed limestone walls with ashlar quoins, door and window surrounds. Stone slate, double-pitched roof. Centrally positioned doors on East and West elevations. Smaller building adjoining south elevation now demolished. (1).
