Metal sign, painted green with white lettering. It reads: 'PEAK DISTRICT AND NC FOOTPATHS PRES. SOCIETY THIS FOOTPATH TO THE SHALE INN VIA WILLIAMS CLOUGH AND THE ASHOP VALLEY DEDICATED FOR EVER MAY 29 1897'
