Full Description

Sanderson's map of 1835 marks 'Derwent Steps' across the river at this point. (1) The stepping stones are clearly marked on an Ordnance Survey map of 1880. (2) By the end of the 19th century they had been replaced by a footbridge. (3) This footbridge is not shown on an early 20th century OS map and appears to have been replaced by another footbridge slightly further downstream, which is still shown on modern maps. (4)
