Full Description
In this area the Cromford & High Peak Railway takes a sinuous route as it hugs the contours of numerous hills. The cutting is, effectively, one long discontinuous cutting where a terrace / shelf has been cut into the hillside to provide level ground for the track. The cutting is inerrupted by embankments (SMR 31628 & 31629), which were constructed to bridge the valleys that intersect the hills. (1).
