Full Description

In 1853 a branch line was constructed to extend the Cromford & High Peak Railway from its original terminus by the Cromford Canal to a new junction with the Midland Railway main line. After this the Cromford and High Peak Railway no longer had to rely on the Cromford Canal for its trade. The railway continued in operation until 1967. (1) NGR: SK 32125 55536 - SK 31445 55731. Section of trackbed from High Peak Junction to Cromford Goods/Wharf Shed. The trackbed is benched/cut into the hill between the river and the A6. It is a single track section until the marshalling area at High Peak Junction, where the cutting becomes wider to accommodate more tracks. (2)
