Catch pit used to halt runaway wagons. There are two parallel mortared gritstone walls, measuring approximately 30m long and 5m wide at the opening of the catch pit. The trackbed slopes down to the pit, which currently has a timber and iron girder 'roof'. The parallel walls narrow within the pit itself, they are approximately 3m high at the bottom of the trackbed. The pit is filled with a large amount of soil, debris and the last runaway wagon. (1)
