  • (Hanoverian to Victorian - 1831 AD to 1900 AD)

Protected Status/Designation

  • World Heritage Site Buffer Zone

Full Description

Subsidiary structure that was once attached to the south-west side of the engine house but has been demolished. The location and appearance of the structure are known from maps and photographs. The flue [SMR 9798] originally led from this building and the structure associated with the flue [SMR 9797] appears from map evidence to be the only remaining part of the building that is still extant. Of the majority of the building, there only remains a small section of brickwork, probable foundations, approximately 0.5m long, which are exposed beneath the turf. There is great potential for more remains to be buried beneath the top soil. By comparison to the engine house at Middleton Top, this building once housed the boilers which drove the engine. (1)
