Monument record MDR9503 - Railway bridge, between Harborough Rocks & Longcliffe, Cromford & High Peak Railway

Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

Modern bridge built 1980 to repair damage to the old arched bridge, after vehicle damage. The sides are of small, regular, mortared limestone blocks. The bridge has a concrete reinforced top sitting on its sides. Large drystone buttresses either side, constructed of large irregular limestone blocks, merge to form a retaining wall for embankment, SMR 30613. The tunnel is approximately 5m wide and 11m long. It is possible that the sides are part of the old bridge and that only the concrete top is new. The bridge is approximately 5m high and 10m wide in total. (1-5)
