Full Description

There is a colliery at this location on the 1st edition 25" OS map of c. 1880. By the 2nd edition 25" OS map of c. 1900 it is named South Wingfield Colliery. It is serviced by the same colliery tramway as Oakerthorpe and Highfield Collieries. (1, 2) The colliery is not marked on the modern OS map [2016]. It appears that this area may have been subject to open cast coal mining at some point in the 20th century, so it is unlikely that any remains of the 19th century colliery survive. (3, 4)
