Full Description
Severn Engineering Works on Mansfield Rd named on late 19th century and early 20th century OS maps. (1-3)
Known as 'Messrs. Kitchen and Co., Severn Boiler Works, Little Chester, Derby' in 1898. The business manufactured wrought-iron and steel-welded boilers in connection with heating apparatus for buildings. The 'Severn' type of boiler was exclusively made at these works. The building was made up of a number of workshops for each stage of the boiler construction process, with a large Tyne dynamo for electric lighting. In 1898 about 100 people were employed at the works. (4)
