Full Description

The site is shown as 'Via Gellia Mill (Cotton)', along with a 'Corn Mill' and 'Smithy' on the same site, on a late 19th century map, still as 'Via Gellia Mill (Cotton)' on an OS map at the end of the 19th century, and as 'Via Gellia Mill (Woollen)' on an early 20th century OS map. (1, 2, 3) Three storey gritstone mill with slate roof and gritstone tower, formally a stone- crushing mill and now in multiple use (1997). There are modern additions and the original 19th century mill has been considerably altered by the insertion of modern windows and roof lights. The mill pond with leet and wheel pit is clearly visible from the public footpath through the site. (4)
