Site is shown on late 19th century OS maps as 'Methodist Chapel (Primitive)' and as 'Institute' on an early 20th century OS map. (1, 2, 3) Bulmer (1895) states: "the Primitive Methodists have a chapel here, which they rent from Mrs. Hitchcock. On the wall is a marble tablet to Thomas Millward, erected by the late Rev. Jenkins, of Hazelwood." (4)
