PARISH OF LONG EATON TAMWORTH ROAD, SK 43 SE 4/45 SAWLEY (North Side) 22.10.62 Bothe Hall II
House. Early C17, altered early C18, refashioned in the early C19 and with minor C20 alterations. Large blocks of coursed squared stone with deep stone plinth, flush quoins, stone dressings, stepped cornice, plain first floor band and moulded second floor stringcourse. Graduated, shallow pitched, hipped slate roof with two brick ridge stacks. Square plan, three bays by two bays and three storeys. East elevation has a central early C19, semi-circular headed doorcase with glazed panelled door, traceried fanlight and fluted half columns to either side. Above is a flat hood on C20 scrolled iron brackets. To either side there are glazing bar sashes set in enlarged original recessed, formerly mullion and transomed, window openings. Above there are three similar sashes also set in enlarged C17 openings and above again are three small square C20 windows. North and south facades also have glazing bar sashes in enlarged C17 openings, except on both facades one ground floor window has had a glazed door inserted. The north facade has a blocked, recessed and chamfered transomed window to centre of the first floor and a single early C18 glazing bar sash with tiny panes. West facade has a variety of windows, including two C20 windows in original C17 staircase windows at intermediate floor level, also there are two original C17 top floor windows, that to south with its mullion. Interior has three early C18 bolection moulded fireplaces in the bedrooms, one set in a complete early C18 panelled room. The staircase is early C19 to first floor and C20 above. Lower rooms all have ovolo moulded central beams, one also has good C18 cornicing and skirting.
