Description

This record has been generated from an "old county number" (OCN) scheduling record. These are monuments that were not reviewed under the Monuments Protection Programme and are some of our oldest designation records. As such they do not yet have the full descriptions of their modernised counterparts available. Circular enclosure of approx 15ft diameter formed by a bank 1ft to 2ft high. Smaller enclosure with 80ft diameter attached to north-west side. First recorded by Stukely. It has been suggested it might be a henge, but much more likely to be a homestead enclosure <1> Irregular, oval enclosure with earthen bank 2m wide x 25cms high, and within this a slight ditch. There is no gap visible for a gateway in this work. Abutting the west edge, as a secondary work, is a rectangular east/west also with a ditch inside the slight outer bank. The south-west corner of this latter work is cut by the railway line. Surface finds in the neighbourhood are all Romano British < 2> SOURCES = Desc text/AM7/Craster 0E/1969//< 1>; Desc text/AM107/Hart CR/1984//< 2>
