Description

'SK 34 43 PARISH OF DUFFIELD TOWN STREET 7/27 No 48 Gervase House (formerly listed 13.2.67 as House adjoining Greystones) GV II House, now four flats. c1775. Red brick with sandstone dressings. Welsh slate roof with external gable stacks. Stone plinth, quoins, painted ground, first and second floor bands, and dentil eaves cornice with blocking course above. Three storeys. Symmetrical east elevation of three bays, the centre bay advanced with quoins and pediment. Stone doorcase with pilasters and pediment. Raised and fielded panelled door with traceried fanlight over, flanked on each side by tripartite glazing bar sashes divided by Doric pilasters and with Adamesque friezes and dentil cornices. Two similar windows. above, flanking a glazing bar sash with similar frieze, and moulded surround. Top floor has a plain sash with moulded surround, flanked on each side by tripartite plain sashes in moulded surrounds. Interior: Entrance hall has plaster frieze with urns and a segmental arch dividing it from the staircase which is in a curved projection to rear, around an open well. The staircase has carved tread ends, stick balusters and a ramped and wreathed handrail. Rear wing of c1900, not of special interest. Listing NGR: SK3449743241.'
