Description

This record has been generated from an "old county number" (OCN) scheduling record. These are monuments that were not reviewed under the Monuments Protection Programme and are some of our oldest designation records. As such they do not yet have the full descriptions of their modernised counterparts available. Two ploughed out ditches of cursus, 325ft apart run NE/SW for nearly a mile. There are also rings, linear ditches, pit alignments and so on. Very much resembles sites in Thames, Welland and Severn Valley. Excavations have revealed bell beaker replaced by long necked beaker barrow < 1> , < 2> ,< 3 > , < 4>. Slight river terrace above the Trent-regularly ploughed, but slight traces of side banks of cursus may still be recognised some 10cms above the adjacent plough lands. These earthworks are rapidly being levelled by the cross ploughing/traction of the modern farm usage. < 5> SOURCES = Desc text/AM7//1966//<1>; Desc text/Antiquity//1966//VOL XL P1 XXI PP 589 < 2>; Desc text//PickEring J///<3>; Desc text/EMAB 7//1964//< 4>; .
