Description
Farm outbuilding, formerly threshing barn. Early C17, with later additions. Thinly bedded coal measures sandstone on a rough plinth of larger stones, with plain gables and a stone slate roof covering. Single storey with overlofts, six bays, that to the north end an addition. West elevation. Off-centre full height doorway with quoined surround, and plain planked harr-doors. To the north, two wide rectangular openings with massive chamfered cills, now infilled with vertically set flagstones. Two doorways, one with boarded door with a rectangular light beneath a plain stone lintel, the other beneath a wooden lintel. Interior. Five massive cruck trusses with tie and collar beams, and a yoke which carries a ridge purlin. Single purlins, with scarf joints notched into the backs of the cruck blades. Straight wind braces to one side of each truss. On the east side of the building, the padstones on which the trusses rest project from the wall base.
